Advance your woodworking skills in a professional shop setting, while enjoying the company of people who share your woodworking interests. The three-way miter is the cornerstone of traditional asian furniture. It is an elegant and clean joint with each piece flowing seamlessly into the others. Though beautiful it can be a tricky and imposing joint to tackle. In this class I will pull back the curtain and show just how easily you can incorporate this joinery into your woodwork.
In this three-day course each student will complete their own bonsai stand employing three way miters. Students should possess moderate woodworking proficiency ( students need to be familiar with tablesaw, jointer and planer, though mastery is not required). Class size is limited to 3 so there will be plenty of one on one instruction.
Class is in person at 2210 North Lewis Ave. Portland OR 97227 Friday February 20 to Sunday February 22.

This is designed for individuals pursing their own woodworking projects who have hit a snag and need some professional help. This class reserves a 30 minute zoom conference in which I will work with you to help resolve any issues you are facing in your woodworking. I can advise on technical issues, design issues, material sourcing and material advice, and much more. I have over a decade of experience as a professional woodworker, teacher and author, which I can draw upon to solve whatever issue you are facing. I look forward to helping you resolve your woodworking hangups so you can get back to building and enjoying your shop time.
I will reach out via email to schedule a time. Class expires if unused 60 days after purchase date. (If giving as a gift, reach out for exceptions to this clause)
My experience as a professional woodworker includes:
My work focuses on high end furniture using traditional and modern (domino) joinery, I often incorporate metal and glass into my pieces. I work extensively with live edge and mill many of the logs I use in my furniture. I am not afraid to introduce curves into my work and often use bent lamination to create parts for my pieces. I have also worked with veneer, both cutting it myself on the bandsaw and using precut veneer. I built, wired, and outfitted my own shop. I have a Masters of Fine Art degree and so I feel very comfortable discussing design issues as well. I have taught woodworking classes most of my career for both the Oregon Guild of Woodworkers and in my shop.
Class is for a 30 minute zoom call, if question runs over that time limit additional time must be purchased. For complicated issues consider the 1 hr project help class. If you are not able to utilize zoom we can schedule a phone conversation, but without the visual element provided by zoom I cannot guarantee my ability to understand and answer all questions. Purchase of class does not guarantee a solution to your question, purchase is final and a refund will not be given if I am unable to give a satisfactory solution to your question. Please consider my expertise with regard to your question before purchasing, questions about epoxy river pours, steam bending and Japanese wood planes are outside my purview.
